CAIN Biography
CAIN is an American contemporary Christian music trio made up of siblings Taylor Cain Matz, Madison Cain Johnson, and Logan Cain. Known for their distinctive vocal harmonies and faith-centered songs, the group has become a recognizable name in Christian music through releases that celebrate Jesus, encourage believers, and reflect on God’s faithfulness. Their musical style blends contemporary Christian pop, worship, and elements of country and soft rock.
Raised in Hartselle, Alabama, the siblings grew up in a Christian home as the children of a pastor. Music was part of their family life from an early age, and they became involved in church worship while growing up. Their father served as a pastor and worship leader, giving the three siblings an early opportunity to develop their musical abilities. Taylor played guitar and keyboards and sang lead vocals, Madison played bass and sang harmonies, while Logan played drums.
Although music had always been part of their lives, the siblings did not immediately pursue it as a full-time career. Their journey toward professional music began to take shape during their college years, when they started exploring opportunities to perform together and develop their sound as a group.
CAIN’s Musical Journey
A major turning point came in 2012 when the siblings entered a competition connected to singer-songwriter Dave Barnes. The prize was an opportunity to open for him at a show in Birmingham, Alabama. After progressing through the competition, CAIN won the opportunity, giving them an important early experience performing before a wider audience.
The siblings continued developing their music and eventually moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they became involved in their local church’s worship ministry. Their time in Nashville opened the door to a more serious consideration of Christian music as a profession. With encouragement from their manager, Ron Smith, they began writing original songs focused on their Christian faith.
Their songwriting attracted the attention of Provident Label Group, leading to a recording deal. This partnership helped CAIN move from performing together as a family to establishing themselves as recording artists within the contemporary Christian music industry.
In 2020, the group released its self-titled EP through the label, introducing its music to a broader audience. Their single Rise Up (Lazarus) became a major breakthrough, reaching No. 1 on Christian radio and earning RIAA Gold certification. The song draws on the biblical account of Lazarus and presents a message of hope, resurrection, and God’s power to bring life where circumstances appear hopeless.
Breakthrough Songs and Albums
Following the success of Rise Up (Lazarus), CAIN continued building its audience with songs that combine accessible melodies, strong sibling harmonies, and messages rooted in Christian faith.
Their debut full-length album, Rise Up, arrived in 2021. It featured songs including Yes He Can, The Commission, and I’m So Blessed. Both Rise Up (Lazarus) and Yes He Can reached No. 1 on Christian radio, strengthening the group’s position in the genre. I’m So Blessed also gained considerable attention on social media, where its message of gratitude and recognition of God’s goodness connected with a wide audience.
CAIN followed the album with Wonderful, a Christmas and special-event project featuring the title track with Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman. The group also continued releasing music and performing at concerts and Christian music events, expanding its reach beyond radio audiences.
In 2023, the trio released Honest Offering, a live EP, and Jesus Music, its second full-length studio album. The latter explored the group’s relationship with Christian music and the role faith plays in its life and work. Songs such as Any More and Made for Heaven further demonstrated the group’s interest in combining memorable melodies with messages about following Jesus.
The group subsequently released Jesus Music Deluxe in 2024 and continued its musical journey with later singles, including I Made It in 2025. Its releases in 2026 have included Living Water and Thank You for My Whole Life, reflecting its continued focus on Christian music and worship.
Musical Style and Christian Ministry
One of CAIN’s defining characteristics is the harmony shared by its three members. Having grown up singing and serving together in church, Taylor, Madison, and Logan developed a sound shaped by their family relationship and shared musical background.
Their music brings together contemporary Christian pop and worship with country and soft-rock influences. This combination allows the group to move between upbeat songs of celebration, reflective expressions of faith, and worship-oriented performances.
The trio’s lyrics frequently address God’s goodness, the hope found in Jesus, gratitude, perseverance, and the importance of trusting God through life’s difficulties. Songs such as Yes He Can emphasize faith in God’s ability to act, while I’m So Blessed encourages listeners to recognize the blessings present in their lives.
CAIN’s Christian identity also extends beyond its recordings. The siblings have performed alongside established Christian artists, including Chris Tomlin, TobyMac, Phil Wickham, and Casting Crowns. Their performances at major venues and events, including the Grand Ole Opry, have further introduced their music to audiences outside traditional church settings.
Awards and Achievements
CAIN’s growing influence has been recognized through awards and industry nominations. In 2021, the group received a K-LOVE Fan Award for Top Breakout Single for Rise Up (Lazarus). The trio also received recognition at the GMA Dove Awards, including awards in 2024 for its television series Chasing CAIN and the recorded music packaging of Jesus Music.
In 2025, CAIN received a GMA Dove Award for its children’s choral project, CAIN for Kids. The project reflects the group’s interest in sharing Christian music with younger audiences and families.
Beyond recording and touring, the siblings have expanded their creative work through television and children’s publishing. These activities complement their music ministry while keeping their Christian faith central to their public work.
