Dunamis Church Constructs Pedestrian Bridge on Abuja Airport Road

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, has emphasised the importance of making a positive difference in society, declaring that impact is more important than income. He made the statement during the commissioning of a pedestrian bridge constructed by the church along Airport Road in Abuja.

The bridge was commissioned on Friday, October 30, 2026, by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The project was fully funded by Dunamis International Gospel Centre as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at improving public safety and supporting community development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Enenche explained that the motivation behind the project was the Christian responsibility to demonstrate love through practical actions that benefit humanity.

He said: “God is love. To be a messenger of God means to be a messenger of love. Love is about what we give, not what we get. We may make a living by what we get, but we make a difference by what we give. Our impact is more important than our income.”

Dunamis Completes Pedestrian Bridge After Years of Seeking Approval

The construction of the pedestrian bridge followed several years of efforts by the church to obtain government approval for the project.

Speaking during the commissioning, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that Dunamis initially submitted its application for approval in 2018. However, the request remained unattended to until February 2026, when the church brought the matter to his attention, leading to the eventual approval.

Enenche also explained that the church had spent approximately six years pursuing permission to undertake the project before construction could begin.

According to reports from the commissioning ceremony, construction commenced on June 22, 2026, and was completed within approximately four months. The church initially challenged the construction company to deliver the project within three months, but the timeline was eventually agreed at four months.

The Managing Director of Dutum Construction Company Limited, Temitope Runshewe, disclosed that the project was completed within the agreed period, despite the demanding construction schedule.

Becky Enenche Explains the Motivation Behind the Bridge

Dr Becky Enenche, who also spoke at the commissioning ceremony, explained that the church had previously attempted other ways of helping pedestrians cross the busy Airport Road corridor.

According to her, the church provided coaster buses to transport people across the road, but the arrangement was not sufficient to address the problem. This eventually informed the decision to construct a permanent pedestrian bridge.

She described the completed structure as a major relief for pedestrians who regularly use the busy road and highlighted the importance of providing practical solutions to challenges affecting the community.

Wike Commends Dunamis for Its Community Development Efforts

While commissioning the bridge, Wike commended Dr Paul Enenche and his wife for investing in infrastructure that benefits residents beyond the church community.

The minister described the project as an example of corporate social responsibility, noting that government cannot independently address every societal need and that private organisations and religious institutions also have important roles to play in community development.

He also urged Nigerians to acknowledge government efforts when positive results are achieved while continuing to hold public officials accountable for their responsibilities.

Wike further approved a request by the church to roof the pedestrian bridge with transparent cladding and provide lighting to improve its appearance and encourage public use.

Enenche Highlights Other Community Interventions by Dunamis

Beyond the newly commissioned pedestrian bridge, Enenche highlighted other projects and humanitarian interventions undertaken by the church.

These include road projects around Mararaba, Karu and Kubwa, borehole projects in Borno State, and support for internally displaced persons and victims of flooding in Maiduguri.

He also referenced a borehole provided in Maisandari Ward in Borno State, including one located beside a mosque, as an example of the church’s commitment to serving people regardless of religious differences.

These interventions formed part of his explanation that religious responsibility should extend beyond preaching and church activities to practical expressions of love and service to humanity.

What Will You Be Remembered For?

Beyond the commissioning itself, Enenche used the occasion to challenge people to consider the legacy they are building through their actions and contributions to society.

He observed that some people would be remembered for the problems they solved, others for the problems they failed to solve, while some would be remembered for the problems they caused.

His message was that the value of a person’s life should not be measured exclusively by financial achievements or material possessions, but also by the positive difference made in the lives of others.

The commissioning of the Dunamis pedestrian bridge provided a practical example of the message, as a religious organisation invested in public infrastructure intended to serve residents and pedestrians along one of Abuja’s busy road corridors.

Enenche’s statement, “Our impact is more important than our income,” therefore served as a central message of the ceremony, highlighting the importance of generosity, service and meaningful contributions to society.
